Road Safety Ambassadors
Recognized for Successful Two-Years of Community Outreach
(Toronto: Nov. 17, 2006) -- OTA’s 2005-06 Road
Knights Team, made up of professional truck drivers who make presentations about
how car and truck drivers can safely share the road and careers in the trucking
industry, were recognized today for their service at the 80th annual
convention of the Ontario Trucking Association.
Each team member was presented with a plaque at a
ceremony that was part of a luncheon held on Friday, Nov. 17 at the OTA
convention (Nov. 16 & 17, Toronto Congress Centre, 650 Dixon Road, Toronto).
The 9 members of the team have spent the past two
years since they were selected visiting a wide variety of organizations
including business and social clubs, driving schools and corporations, where
they deliver a message of safe driving and industry good will. Team members also
talk to career seekers about the wide variety of job opportunities in the
trucking industry.
The transport drivers who make up the team are
first-class drivers who represent their peers – all those Ontario
transport drivers who are dedicated to safety and professionalism in the
industry.
Team members are selected by a panel of judges from
industry, government, police and media representatives every two years. The
program started in 1995 and earned a National Transportation Week Award of
Excellence in 1996.
