Challenger Dispatcher
Receives Posthumous Recognition
Pat Maslen recognized for service above and beyond
the call of duty
(Toronto: Nov. 17, 2005) – Today Cancom
Tracking, in partnership with the Ontario Trucking Association, presented a
special award of recognition to Sharon Maslen on behalf of her late husband Pat
for his outstanding dedication to the field of dispatch. This special
presentation was made in conjunction with the conferring of the annual
Dispatcher of the Year award. Both presentations were made at the Ontario
Trucking Association’s 80th annual convention (Nov. 16 - 17)
held at the Toronto Congress Centre.
The award,
sponsored by Cancom Tracking, was presented to recognize the contributions that
Mr. Maslen had made as a dispatcher at Challenger Motor Freight while fighting a
lengthy battle with cancer. Pat Maslen passed away on June 12, 2006 at the age
of 40.“Individuals like Mr. Maslen are definitely seen
as role models. While inflicted with a deadly disease Pat was able to inspire
others and motivate himself. We would like to congratulate his wife and family
for having such a courageous family member,” said Mike Ham, Cancom
Tracking Vice President.
Mr. Maslen was a dispatcher with Challenger Motor
Freight of Cambridge, Ontario for eight years. During that time, despite
extended periods of pain and discomfort, he provided excellent customer service
to Challenger’s customers and took excellent care of Challenger’s
drivers. He was selected to receive this special award because of the
inspiration he provided for others as he simultaneously did his job and battled
his disease.
“His positive attitude, no matter what stumbling
blocks life had thrown at him, was an example to drivers and coworkers alike.
Pat was a leader. He led by example” said Challenger Motor Freight
Chairman and CEO Dan Einwechter.
A fan of NASCAR motor racing, and a devoted husband
and father, Mr. Maslen is survived by his wife Sharon, daughter Kristy age 16,
and son Dylan age 14.
