3. Streamlining Border Crossings
Friday, October 25, 2002 – (half day -- morning)

On September 9th, Prime Minister Chretien and President Bush announced the implementation of FAST commercial clearance at six high volume border crossings for December 2002. FAST is a joint Canada-United States program aimed at harmonizing, as much as possible, commercial processes for pre-approved low risk importers, carriers and drivers. A key component of FAST is the Partners in Protection (PIP) program, which is aimed at improving security within the entire supply trade chain. In addition, to assist companies in gearing up for the implementation of the Administrative Monetary Penalty System (AMPS), an overview of AMPS will be provided including infractions and penalties. 4. The New Hours of Service Rules - Will You Be Ready?
Tuesday, December 10, 2002 – (half day -- morning)

Canada's federal and provincial governments have endorsed a new set of federal hours of service regulations governing transport drivers. Provincial and federal ministers of transportation recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) based on a draft regulation developed by industry and government The MOU will require provinces, territories and Transport Canada to adopt the new standard into law -- likely by September, 2003.
