What is the OTA Education
Foundation?
The OTA Education Foundation is a charitable institution devoted to
the furtherance of education for Ontario post-secondary students.
Established in 1958, the Foundation was founded with the goal of
providing assistance to Ontario students, regardless of their field of
study, who have demonstrated their commitment to academic success,
community service, and who have or plan to have an affiliation with the
trucking industry.
Today, the Foundation, through its Scholarship Program, continues
this tradition by assisting children of parents who work in
Ontario’s trucking industry.

Our Mission
The OTA Education Foundation is committed to providing Ontario
post-secondary students, regardless of their field of study, with
financial assistance to fund university and college tuition and related
expenses. This is evident through our stated mission:
“To enlighten and educate Ontario University and college
students to the economic importance of a prosperous trucking industry,
and to encourage them to consider career and job opportunities in
trucking by providing recognition and financial assistance for
post-secondary education for children of workers of Ontario-based
trucking and related companies”.

Make a Donation
The OTA Education Foundation relies on donations to fund its
scholarship program. Without donations, the Foundation cannot carry out
its goal of providing much-needed financial assistance to university and
college students. As a registered charity, donors will receive a
charitable tax receipt. Don’t delay – make a
donation today.

OTA Education Foundation
Scholarships
Financial awards are available to Ontario students enrolled in
approved programs at approved Canadian post-secondary institutions.
Applicants are assessed primarily on academic performance. In an effort
to learn more about, and to demonstrate an understanding of Ontario's
trucking industry, applicants are asked to write an essay that answers a
specific question about trucking.
In addition, students graduating from secondary (high) school are
eligible to apply for the J.O. Goodman Award, Bud Bar Award (university
applicants) or the C.V. Hoar Award (college applicants). Scholarship Application Forms, which include
detailed instructions for completion, are available from the OTA
Education Foundation.

The J.O. Goodman Bud Barr and C.V. Hoar Awards
Students entering their first year of post-secondary study at an
approved university or college are eligible for consideration for the
J.O. Goodman Award, The Bud Barr Award or the C.V. Hoar Award. A
separate application is not necessary for students applying for either
award. However, there are additional requirements, which are detailed in
the Scholarship
Application Package.
The J.O. Goodman Award
The J.O. Goodman Award consists of a single scholarship for an
eligible first-year student enrolled in a full-time recognized program
in an accredited university. The award is named for Mr. J.O. (Joe)
Goodman, who for forty-four years was Senior Staff Executive of the
Ontario Trucking Association (OTA). His years of service to the
development of the trucking industry in Ontario and to the trucking
association resulted in his being awarded the Order of Canada in 1978
along with the nickname “Mr. Trucking”. Mr. Goodman was one
of the moving forces behind the establishment of the Foundation and was
its Executive Director from its beginning until 1978. Scholarship Application Package

The Bud Barr Award
The Bud Barr Award consists of a single scholarship for an eligible
first-year student enrolled in a full-time, recognized program in an
accredited Canadian university. The award is named for Mr. William "Bud"
Barr, who served as the Foundation's Executive Director from 1992 to
2005, following his retirement from a long career in the Ontario
trucking industry. Prior to managing the Foundation, he served on its
board of directors for several terms, during which time he was a strong
advocate for the charity. Bud was a fixture in the Ontario trucking
industry, and an active member with the Ontario Trucking Association for
decades during which time he held nearly every volunteer position that
existed. The Bud Barr Award honours the memory of William "Bud" Bar who
passed away in 2009. Scholarship Application Package
The C.V. Hoar Award
The C.V. Hoar Award consists of a single scholarship for an eligible
first-year student enrolled in a full-time recognized program in an
accredited community college.
The award is named for Mr. C.V. (Charles) Hoar, who is one of the
founding members of the OTA Education Foundation and who led the
Foundation into its current form when he helped establish the J.O.
Goodman Awards in 1979 following the retirement of Mr. Goodman as Senior
Staff Executive of the Ontario Trucking Association. Serving as chairman
for both the Ontario Trucking Association and the OTA Education
Foundation while continuing to operate a successful trucking company,
Mr. Hoar was a strong advocate of post-secondary education and
recognized its value in a strong and viable trucking industry. Scholarship Application Package
