Course Description
This course gives a full understanding of how to
comply with the Ontario Hours of Service regulations that limit the
number of hours drivers can operate commercial vehicles. The course
covers application of the rules in a city or inter-city operating
setting. This course is based on Canadian Trucking Alliance driver
handbook “Hours of Service for Commercial
Drivers”.
Why this is
important
Every driver of every commercial vehicle in
Ontario must comply with rules that restrict when and how long a driver
can continue to drive that vehicle. Drivers that operate within a radius
of 160 km have some exemptions for the requirement to keep a logbook but
they must still comply with the rules. Records must also be kept by the
employer for every driver.
Who should take the
course
Drivers, managers, trainers and operations
personnel will understand the rules and will learn about the behaviors
and systems that must be in place to stay compliant.
What’s in the
course
Canadian rules are taught, practical exercises
are carried out and proper use of logbooks and ‘record of duty
status’ requirements are covered.
Topics not covered in this course include US
rules, cross-border operations and sleeper berth provisions.
