Commercial
Vehicle Wheel Service Training
-- Train the Trainer --
The Ontario Trucking Association (OTA) has offered the training/certification required by the Apprenticeship and Certification Act, for persons who remove and replace wheels on commercial vehicles, since 1996. Changes to this program will take effect on June 1, 2009. These changes will affect all instructors who became certified prior to 2009. All CVWS Instructor Certificates must recertify under the new program to offer training on or after June 1, 2009.
The revised program is the result of efforts by the OTA and the Ontario Tire Dealers Association (OTDA) to integrate training. It combines the entry requirements, as well as the certification and delivery of training of the Ontario CVWS program with elements of the industry standard programs offered by the Tire Industry Association (TIA).
To be able to offer CVWS training after June 1, 2009, instructors must successfully complete the TIA Commercial Tire Service (CTS) Instructor course and the OTA CVWS Instructor course. These courses can be taken together; as there is a significant amount of overlap in the material. Courses are arranged by the OTDA and schedule information is available at www.otda.com.
All courses taught and certificates issued prior to June 1, 2009 will remain valid. Applications for certification dated after June 1, 2009 will not be processed unless the Instructor is certified for the new program and teaches the new program materials. Training packages purchased for the current program will be credited at full value toward the purchase of training packages for the new program.
Individuals who have already received a Commercial Vehicle Wheel Service certificate are not affected by this change and all existing CVWS certificates remain valid. Only Instructors are affected by this change.
