million collision-free kilometers in 38 years of professional
driving

Trucks Canada National Driver of the Year
September

Terrance
“Terry” Patrick Lyver, a professional transport driver
with Berry & Smith Trucking Ltd. in Penticton, British Columbia,
has been named the 2003 Canadian
Trucking Alliance/Volvo Trucks Canada National Driver of the Year.
The award will be presented at a British Columbia Trucking Association
member function on December 4, 2003.
The award
has been presented annually for the past 28 years to a Canadian
transport driver who demonstrates a high-level of professionalism
both on and off the road, courtesy, and sometimes bravery, at
roadside.
Terry has
been a driver with Berry & Smith Trucking for over 23 years.
He has driven 6.2 million collision free kilometers in a driving
career that spans almost 40 years. In honour of his achievement,
Terry will receive a trip for two to any destination of his choice
within Canada, a $1,000 cash prize and a personal trophy courtesy
of Volvo Trucks Canada Inc.
“Terry
Lyver’s outstanding driving record, and his dedication to
excellence exemplify the commitment to road safety made by Canada’s
professional truck drivers,” said David Bradley, CEO of
the Canadian Trucking Alliance. “But it is in the way he
goes about his day-to-day work, both on and off the road, that
makes him stand out.”
“We
are proud to honour Terry Lyver as a representative of our industry.
The fact that he is from B.C. is a bonus,” said Paul Landry,
President & CEO of the British Columbia Trucking Association.
Terry’s
route takes him from British Columbia to points throughout Western
Canada and the United States. As a result, he has been able to
assist many motorists throughout the years.
A
number of years ago, while he was driving from Vancouver to Penticton,
Terry witnessed a car go off the road and roll down a steep embankment
near Similkameen Falls. Terry backed his truck up to the embankment,
hooked on a rope and shone his spotlights down the embankment.
With the help of another driver, he was able to safely pull two
ladies from the car. Then he phoned for help.
In his spare
time, Terry enjoys riding his motorcycle, and participates in
Ride for Sight events as well as the Christmas Toy Run.
Terry
and his wife Lana live in O.K. Falls, British Columbia. They have
two adult children.
