The CTA/Volvo Trucks Canada National Truck Driver of
the Year award has been presented annually for the past three decades
to a Canadian professional transport driver who holds a collision-free
driving record, demonstrates a high level of professionalism both
on an off the road and demonstrates courtesy - and sometimes bravery
- at roadside. The award is generously sponsored by Volvo Trucks
Canada Inc.
Nominees
for this award come from existing recipients of the Volvo Truck
Driver of the Year award in each of the Canadian provinces. Selection
of this award takes place in Ottawa by a selection panel made
up of national safety and law enforcement organizations including
Transport Canada, the Traffic Injury Research Foundation of Canada,
Canada Safety Council and the Canadian Trucking Alliance.
The
most recent winner Mervin “Merv” Connolly, an owner-operator contracted to
L. E. Walker Transport Ltd. has been named the CTA/Volvo Trucks Canada National Driver of the Year for 2006. Mr. Connolly has driven over five million collision free kilometres in 39 years of commercial driving.

Truck Driver of the Year Receives:
The
national truck driver of the year receives a weekend for two at
a Canadian destination of his/her choice, a trophy and a $1,000
cheque all courtesy of Volvo Trucks Canada Inc.
